1. The (Brisbane) Avengers - Twiddle-E-Dee
(05/69)
Managed by Glenn Shorrock & written by fellow former Twilight
Terry Britten. It enjoyed some success in their home town.
2. The Vibrants - I've Got To Go
(09/66)
Band's 1st single which enjoyed some success in hometown
Adelaide but not elsewhere
3. Jeff Phillips - Everything I Touch
Turns To Tears
(05/69)
2nd single & 2nd hit but it would prove to be his last, despite
several more releases both here & in the UK
4. The Party Machine - You've All Got To
Go
(02/69)
Legendary band feat. Ross Wilson, Mike Rudd & Ross Hannaford.
Their only single
5. The Clik - La-De-Da
(11/69)
A young Mario Millo's 1st band pre Sebastian Hardie. And this
bubblegum, albeit downright catchy song couldn't be more
different to SH's prog work
6. The Colours - Plenty Of Room Up Top
(04/68)
An excellent, folk/rock song, topically humourous. 3rd of 4
Astor singles & their 2nd & biggest hit
7. Buddy England - If I Never Get To Love
You
(04/68)
1st Columbia/EMI single, a Burt Bacharach/Hal David song & 2nd
biggest hit.
8. The Valentines - Love Makes Sweet Music
(07/68)
B Side of "Peculiar Hole In The Sky")
9. The Town Criers - Laughing Man
(06/71)
2nd last single & 1st for HMV, despite being one of their best
this went nowhere & contributed to their demise.
10. The Sect - St Johns Wood
(04/70)
2nd & last of 2 singles, both of which enjoyed some chart
success, this was written by the Master's Apprentices Jim Keays
& Doug Ford. John Brownrigg (Feelgoods & Star Spangled Banger)
later colaborated with Jim on his classic Boy From The Stars
album. Peter Moscos later became half of Moscos & Stone.
11. Peter Doyle - Plastic Dream And Toy
Balloons
(10/67)
A superb song by Neil Sedaka that deserved much more success
than it recieved. It was Peter's 2nd & final release on Astor
after several hits on Sunshine. It also showed a more mature
approach but was his last single prior to joining The Virgil
Brothers & later The New Seekers.
12. The Groop - You Gotta Live Love
(06/69)
Another fine soul influenced song by the band's Brian Cadd & Don
Mudie, it's relative failure precipitated their break up & this
was to be their final release.
13. Perfection - Pretty Girl
(1968)
Another good song that deserved a better fate. The 1st of 2
singles, this one on Astor. Mal Nichols has played with Steve
Groves in the Kinetics & later turned up in Fantasy.
14. The Iguana - Good News
(03/69)
4th & final single for this band, like their biggest hit
"California My Way" it's drenched in superb harmonies but like
their other follow ups, was criminally ignored.
15. The Motion - Nice Girl
(04/69)
And this excellent psych/pop track should have been huge too.
2nd & final single on Phillips.
16. Marcie Jones - Thats The Way It Is
(01/67)
My fave 60's gal singer so any comment might be bias LOL.
Suffice to say it was the 4th of her 5 Sunshine singles &
another (undeserved) flop.
17. Procession - One Day In Every Week
(01/67)
The much acclaimed Procession rose from the ashes of Normie
Rowe's Playboys which included Brian Peacock (Ex Librettos) &
Mick Rogers. This UK re-recording is the band's 4th & last
single. Mick Rogers later played for several years with Manfred
Mann's Earthband
18. The Dream - Who Could Be Lovin' You
(04/68)
Excellent soul influenced track, this was the 1st of 2 Festival
releases & 1st hit. It's a far cry from the Bubblegum pop they
would pursue only a year later as The New Dream (but essentially
the same band..for a while anyway)
19. Norman Willison - Please Do Something
(02/68)
Norman found fleeting fame, alongside Molly & Ding Dong, as one
of the mimers on Kommotion. This seems to be his only single. He
later died of a drug overdose under suspicious circumstances in
1978.
20. The Cherokees - Sally
(09/68)
After several hits on the Go label, the Cherokees switched to
Festival when the previous label wound up. However it enjoyed
only minor success in hometown Melbourne, & proved to be the
band's final release.
21. The Masters Apprentices - Cortina Car
Jingle
22. Cheryl Gray (Later Samantha Sang) -
Cortina Car Jingle
